TopSpot Internet Marketing Solutions, is a comprehensive web design, hosting and search engine marketing firm based in Houston, Texas. They specialize in providing comprehensive online marketing solutions for B2B industrial manufacturers, distributors and service providers. These customized strategies result in sales growth and maximized marketing effectiveness by delivering pre-qualified traffic to customers’ websites and increase conversions. TopSpot is also a Catalog Data Solutions (CDS) partner providing CDS CAD and Catalog solutions integrated into the websites they build and manage for their clients.

PROBLEMS

The industrial product selection and buying process has changed – many customers now research and select products online, often before even talking to a supplier. To help our industrial customers differentiate themselves and lead in their segments they need to adapt to this new reality. In particular their websites need to easily and rapidly fulfill the needs of design engineers looking for their products and help them design-in those component products into new designs.

Industrial products need to be found in online searches that lead to the correct website – from search engines (e.g. Google), CAD search engines (e.g. 3DModelSpace) or engineering portals (e.g. GlobalSpec).

CAD downloads save designers time – design engineers want and need them and industrial suppliers need to reach the design engineers. The synergy is obvious and CAD downloads are a ‘no brainer’. From a search point of view, when a prospect downloads a CAD model the need and relevance of the product has usually been established. Frankly, we don’t know of a higher converting tool than CAD to get from customer interest to actual sales - in the industrial space we think the conversion rate is ~70-95%. Furthermore designedin CAD also reduces lead times (sales cycle duration) because Purchasing Departments typically order what Engineering has specified into the design/BOM, often without requiring competitive quoting.

We needed the best solution for creating and adding 2D and 3D CAD drawings/models to our customers’ websites so as to deliver these benefits.

We also needed a partner with the ability to build and maintain (as product changes occur) the product data & CAD models

SOLUTIONS

We evaluated several vendors and ultimately chose the CDS CAD catalog and CDS ModelServer SaaS solution. In our evaluation we looked at CAD solution providers specifically for industrial suppliers - CDS stood out technically and were easy and highly responsive to work with – so we partnered with CDS, and in any projects that require this type of functionality we are very enthusiastic about recommending their CAD and configurator solutions.

CDS Professional Services build and maintain all the CAD models that our customers require – it is especially useful to have a one stop shop and a single vendor responsible for building and maintaining the content, the software and operating hardware (SaaS) – this underpins the excellent user experience delivered to our joint clients.

RESULTS

We build leading custom websites for industrial suppliers supported by ongoing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and often incorporate CDS CAD and catalog solutions whenever CAD is requested or is likely to be advantageous to a client.

We ask clients who their competitors are and look at those websites – if any competitors already offer CAD downloads then the client is obviously falling behind and needs to catch up fast, if no competitors yet offer CAD downloads then there’s an opportunity to differentiate the client, so they lead and can become a destination site for the sector

These customer implementations demonstrate leadership in their segments and a fifth, Bay Fastening (www.bayfastening.com) is in process. What CDS did for StainlessDrains.com was ground breaking and very hard to do; the competitor part number search they created for bbman.com was a unique competitive advantage; the AST Bearings implementation is the most thorough and extensive we’ve seen in the bearing industry.
