Message from our CEO
Thanks to you, we grew over 50% in 2006 and we enter 2007 continuing
to grow and gain momentum. Demand for our
products and services is steadily increasing, driven by six key trends,
all converging now:
-
Manufactured products
are now typically designed in 3D
-
More than 90% of
engineers and buyers search for and select products online
-
Catalogs are evolving
from paper to CD-ROM to online, parametrically-searchable (see 'Internet Arms Race'
article below)
-
Marketing spend by
industrial suppliers is growing fastest online
-
Software as a Service
(SaaS) is approaching mainstream adoption
-
The
number of new portal web sites that aggregate product data or URLs is
exploding
Important as our business is to us, the health and growth of your
business is just as important to us. Hosting and helping grow your on-demand solutions
creates both of our momentum - your success is our success.
CDS provides you with reliable and industry leading CAD Downloads, Configurator
and Catalog services on demand - but more than that, we want to help ensure your
success through cooperative marketing - please see the article below.
Best regards
John Major

Cooperative Marketing - 'you and us'
Once
your product information, including CAD models, is available online, then you need
to maximize the number of design engineers and buyers finding it.
CDS can help via three cooperative marketing activities:
1.
Marketing
Messages - to build
traffic to your and our web sites:
-
Free Joint Press Releases to
announce coming implementations, launched sites, significant milestone measurements
(Search Google, Yahoo or MSN with the string "catalog data solutions",
including the quotation marks, to see recent CDS and customer joint media exposure)
-
Free Case studies -
we'll publish these on our web site and work to get them published in the press
(e.g. CADalyst)
-
Free
Whitepapers - we include case studies in our whitepapers and get them published
(e.g. Time Compression Technologies Magazine, American Fastener Journal)
2. Targeted Exposure for your CAD Models - we connect CAD engineers with
your CAD models by featuring your web site inside leading 3D CAD systems and
industry portals
3. Free User Surveys - to ensure your customers are satisfied with the solution we're hosting
for you. For example the above graph came from the JW Winco user survey
and illustrates how important online designers regard CAD downloads when selecting
a supplier
If you'd like to leverage our partnership and join us in any or all of these cooperative
marketing activities, please contact any of us at CDS for a discussion.
Conversely, until you have downloadable CAD models and perhaps a parametrically-searchable
catalog, there may be little point in driving traffic to your web site.
Lastly
we've created the CDS referral program to financially recognize and reward customers
who introduce new business to CDS - please see the promo details elsewhere in this
newsletter.

The Internet Arms Race - for Manufacturer
Marketing
As an industrial product manufacturer or distributor, how do you create
business advantage by leveraging the internet? A website is a start, but how do
you attract website visitors and how do you turn those browsers into customers?
This is the problem and use of the internet
is turning into an arms race to win these customers.

With most design engineers and buyers searching online for products,
it's vital that your web site and catalog appear, when searches include keywords
important to you. Paper Catalogs aren't necessarily
going to go away, but they are evolving as the diagram shows.
Today nearly 100% of manufacturers have a paper catalog, but only
about 50% have an online catalog. Of those with an online presence most rely on
a PDF file version of their paper catalog.
These PDF files are typically not parametrically searchable for attributes, don't
enable side-by-side product comparison and selection, but can have URLs pointing
to CAD Model downloads
inserted.
The next step is to a parametrically searchable online catalog - so
far about 3% of manufacturers have taken that step.
As well as, creating a better search and use experience for potential customers,
online searchable catalogs enable ROI options like ecommerce, Configurators, CAD
Downloads, Sales Lead Generation and management.
May we suggest you consider where you are in this evolution,
and when you'd like to plan your next step, give us a call and use our experience
in all these areas.
